Chapter 22

1

AND the inhabitants of Yerushalayim made Achazyahu his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Araviym to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Achazyahu the son of Yahuram king of Yahudah reigned.

2

Forty and two years old was Achazyahu when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Yerushalayim. His mother's name also was Athalyahu the daughter of Omriy.

3

He also walked in the ways of the house of Ach'av: for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

4

Wherefore he did evil in the sight of Yahuah like the house of Ach'av: for they were his counselors after the death of his father to his destruction.

5

He walked also after their counsel, and went with Yahuram the son of Ach'av king of Yashar'el to war against Chaza'el king of Aram at Ra'moth Gil'ad: and the Arammiym smote Yoram.

6

And he returned to be healed in Yizre'el because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Chaza'el king of Aram. And Azaryahu the son of Yahuram king of Yahudah went down to see Yahuram the son of Ach'av at Yizre'el, because he was sick.

7

And the destruction of Achazyahu was of Elohiym by coming to Yoram: for when he was come, he went out with Yahuram against Yahu the son of Nimshiy, whom Yahuah had anointed to cut off the house of Ach'av.

8

And it came to pass, that, when Yahu was executing judgment upon the house of Ach'av, and found the princes of Yahudah, and the sons of the brethren of Achazyahu, that ministered to Achazyahu, he slew them.

9

And he sought Achazyahu: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Shomeron,) and brought him to Yahu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Yahushaphat, who sought Yahuah with all his heart. So the house of Achazyahu had no power to keep still the kingdom.

10

But when Athalyahu the mother of Achazyahu saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Yahudah.

11

But Yahushav'ath, the daughter of the king, took Yo'ash the son of Achazyahu, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Yahushav'ath, the daughter of King Yahuram, the woman of Yahuyada the priest, (for she was the sister of Achazyahu,) hid him from Athalyahu, so that she slew him not.

12

And he was with them hid in the house of Elohiym six years: and Athalyahu reigned over the land.
