NOW in the eighteenth year of King Yarov'am began Aviyahu to reign over Yahudah.
He reigned three years in Yerushalayim. His mother's name also was Miykayahu the daughter of Uriy'el of Giv'ah. And there was war between Aviyahu and Yarov'am.
And Aviyahu set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Yarov'am also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valor.
And Aviyahu stood up upon Mount Tsemarayim, which is in Mount Ephrayim, and said, Hear me, Yarov'am, and all Yashar'el;
Ought ye not to know that Yahuah Elohai of Yashar'el gave the kingdom over Yashar'el to Daviyd forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
Yet Yarov`am the son of Nevat, the servant of Shalomah the son of Daviyd, is risen up, and has rebelled against his adoniy.
And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Beliya`al, and have strengthened themselves against Rechav`am the son of Shalomah, when Rechav`am was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.
And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of Yahuah in the hand of the sons of Daviyd; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Yarov`am made you for elohiym.
Have ye not cast out the priests of Yahuah, the sons of Aharon, and the Leviyiym, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no elohiym.
But as for us, Yahuah is our Elohiym, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto Yahuah, are the sons of Aharon, and the Leviyiym wait upon their business:
And they burn unto Yahuah every morning and every evening ascending smoke sacrifices and sweet incense: the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the menorah of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we guard the watch of Yahuah Elohaynu; but ye have forsaken him.
And, behold, Elohiym himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Yashar'el, fight ye not against Yahuah Elohai of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
But Yarov'am caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Yahudah, and the ambushment was behind them.
And when Yahudah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto Yahuah, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
Then the men of Yahudah gave a shout: and as the men of Yahudah shouted, it came to pass, that Elohiym smote Yarov'am and all Yashar'el before Aviyahu and Yahudah.
And the children of Yashar'el fled before Yahudah: and Elohiym delivered them into their hand.
And Aviyahu and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Yashar'el five hundred thousand chosen men.
Thus the children of Yashar'el were brought under at that time, and the children of Yahudah prevailed, because they relied upon Yahuah Elohai of their fathers.
And Aviyahu pursued after Yarov'am, and took cities from him, Beyt-El with the towns thereof, and Yeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephron with the towns thereof.
Neither did Yarov'am recover strength again in the days of Aviyahu: and Yahuah struck him, and he died.
But Aviyahu waxed mighty, and married fourteen women, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
And the rest of the acts of Aviyahu, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
