Chapter 4

1

AND the children of Yashar'el again did evil in the sight of Yahuah, when Ehud was dead.

2

And Yahuah sold them into the hand of Yaviyn king of Kena`an, that reigned in Chatsor; the captain of whose host was Ciycera, which dwelt in Charosheth of the other nations.

3

And the children of Yashar'el cried unto El-Yahuah: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Yashar'el.

4

And Deborah, a prophetess, the woman of Lappiydoth, she judged Yashar'el at that time.

5

And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beyt-El in Mount Ephrayim: and the children of Yashar'el came up to her for judgment.

6

And she sent and called Baraq the son of Aviyno'am out of Qedesh Naphtaliy, and said unto him, Has not Yahuah Elohai of Yashar'el commanded, saying, Go and draw toward Mount Tavor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtaliy and of the children of Zevulun?

7

And I will draw unto you to the river Qiyshon Ciycera, the captain of Yaviyn's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand.

8

And Baraq said unto her, If you will go with me, then I will go: but if you will not go with me, then I will not go.

9

And she said, I will surely go with you: notwithstanding the journey that you take shall not be for your honor; for Yahuah shall sell Ciycera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Baraq to Qedesh.

10

And Baraq called Zevulun and Naphtaliy to Qedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.

11

Now Chever the Qeyniy, which was of the children of Chovav the father in law of Mosheh, had severed himself from the Qeyniyiym, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Tsa`ananniym, which is by Qedesh.

12

And they showed Ciycera that Baraq the son of Aviyno'am was gone up to Mount Tavor.

13

And Ciycera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the nations that were with him, from Charosheth of the other nations unto the river of Qiyshon.

14

And Deborah said unto Baraq, Up; for this is the day in which Yahuah has delivered Ciycera into your hand: is not Yahuah gone out before you? So Baraq went down from Mount Tavor, and ten thousand men after him.

15

And Yahuah discomfited Ciycera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Baraq; so that Ciycera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.

16

But Baraq pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Charosheth of the other nations: and all the host of Ciycera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.

17

Howbeit Ciycera fled away on his feet to the tent of Ya'el the woman of Chever the Qeyniy: for there was peace between Yaviyn the king of Chatsor and the house of Chever the Qeyniy.

18

And Ya`el went out to meet Ciycera, and said unto him, Turn in, my adoniy, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.

19

And he said unto her, Give me, I pray you, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.

20

Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man comes and inquires of you, and says, Is there any man here? that you shall say, No.

21

Then Ya'el Chever's woman took a nail of the tent, and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

22

And, behold, as Baraq pursued Ciycera, Ya'el came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek. And when he came into her tent, behold, Ciycera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.

23

So Elohiym subdued on that day את Yaviyn the king of Kena`an before the children of Yashar'el.

24

And the hand of the children of Yashar'el prospered, and prevailed against Yaviyn the king of Kena`an, until they had destroyed את Yaviyn king of Kena`an.
