AND again the anger of Yahuah was kindled against Yashar'el, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Yashar'el and Yahudah.
For the king said to Yo'av the captain of the host, which was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Yashar'el, from Dan even to Be'er Sheva, and number ye the people, that I may know את the number of the people.
And Yo'av said unto the king, Now Yahuah Elohayka add unto the people, how many soever they be, a hundredfold, and that the eyes of my adoniy the king may see it: but why does my adoniy the king delight in this thing?
Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Yo'av, and against the captains of the host. And Yo'av and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Yashar'el.
And they passed over the Yardan, and pitched in Aro`er, on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Ya`azeyr:
Then they came to Gil`ad, and to the land of Tachtiym Chodshiy; and they came to Dan Ya`an, and about to Tsiydon,
And came to the stronghold of Tsor, and to all the cities of the Chivviym, and of the Kena`aniym: and they went out to the Negev of Yahudah, even to Be`er Sheva.
So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Yerushalayim at the end of nine months and twenty days.
And Yo'av gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king: and there were in Yashar'el eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Yahudah were five hundred thousand men.
And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto El-Yahuah, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech you, O Yahuah, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.
For when David was up in the morning, the Word of Yahuah came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,
Go and say unto El-David, Thus says Yahuah, I offer you three things; choose you one of them, that I may do it unto you.
So Gad came to El-David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto you in your land? or will you flee three months before your enemies, while they pursue you? or that there be three days' pestilence in your land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Yahuah; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.
So Yahuah sent a pestilence upon Yashar'el from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Be'er Sheva seventy thousand men.
And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Yerushalayim to destroy it, Yahuah repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now your hand. And the angel of Yahuah was by the threshingplace of Aravnah the Yevuciy.
And David spoke unto El-Yahuah when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let your hand, I pray you, be against me, and against my father's house.
And Gad came that day to El-David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto Yahuah in the threshingfloor of Aravnah the Yevuciy.
And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as Yahuah commanded.
And Aravnah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Aravnah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.
And Aravnah said, Wherefore is my adoniy the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of you, to build an altar unto Yahuah, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
And Aravnah said unto El-David, Let my adoniy the king take and offer up what seems good unto him: behold, here be oxen for ascending smoke sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.
All these things did Aravnah, as a king, give unto the king. And Aravnah said unto the king, YA-HUAH ELOHAYKA accept you.
And the king said unto Aravnah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of you at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto Yahuah Elohai of that which costs me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty sheqels of silver.
And David built there an altar unto Yahuah, and offered ascending smoke offerings and peace offerings. So Yahuah was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Yashar'el.
