Chapter 7

1

AND the men of Qiryat Ye'ariym came, and fetched up the Ark of Yahuah, and brought it into the house of Aviynadav in the hill, and sanctified El`azar his son to guard the Ark of Yahuah.

2

And it came to pass, while the Ark abode in Qiryat Ye'ariym, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Yashar'el lamented after Yahuah.

3

And Shemu'el spoke unto all the house of Yashar'el, saying, If ye do return unto El-Yahuah with all your hearts, then put away the strange elohai and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto El-Yahuah, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Pelishtiym.

4

Then the children of Yashar'el did put away Ba`aliym and Ashtaroth, and served Yahuah only.

5

And Shemu'el said, Gather all Yashar'el to Mitspah, and I will pray for you unto Yahuah.

6

And they gathered together to Mitspah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahuah, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Yahuah. And Shemu'el judged the children of Yashar'el in Mitspah.

7

And when the Pelishtiym heard that the children of Yashar'el were gathered together to Mitspah, the cereniym of the Pelishtiym went up against El-Yashar'el. And when the children of Yashar'el heard it, they were afraid of the Pelishtiym.

8

And the children of Yashar'el said to El-Shemu'el, Cease not to cry unto EL-Yahuah Elohaynu for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Pelishtiym.

9

And Shemu'el took a sucking lamb, and offered it for an ascending smoke offering wholly unto Yahuah: and Shemu'el cried unto El-Yahuah for Yashar'el; and Yahuah heard him.

10

And as Shemu'el was offering up the ascending smoke offering, the Pelishtiym drew near to battle against Yashar'el: but Yahuah thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Pelishtiym, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Yashar'el.

11

And the men of Yashar'el went out of Mitspah, and pursued the Pelishtiym, and smote them, until they came under Beyt Kar.

12

Then Shemu'el took a stone, and set it between Mitspah and Shen, and called the name of it Eben Ha'ezer, saying, Hitherto has Yahuah helped us.

13

So the Pelishtiym were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Yashar'el: and the hand of Yahuah was against the Pelishtiym all the days of Shemu'el.

14

And the cities which the Pelishtiym had taken from Yashar'el were restored to Yashar'el, from Eqron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Yashar'el deliver out of the hands of the Pelishtiym. And there was peace between Yashar'el and the Emoriym.

15

And Shemu'el judged Yashar'el all the days of his life.

16

And he went from year to year in circuit to Beyt-El, and Gilgal, and Mitspah, and judged Yashar'el in את all those places.

17

And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Yashar'el; and there he built an altar unto Yahuah.
